With 70 shops, 1,900 employees and net sales of 613 million euros, ProMarkt is well positioned on the German market. The specialist store combines its attractive product range – from entry-level appliances to high-quality branded goods – with the highest level of customer service. The company is part of the REWE Group, one of the most important retail and tourism groups in Europe. The Cologne-based group of companies has a turnover of around 53 billion euros and employs 310,000 people in 14 countries.
Challenge
When the REWE Group became the owner of the ProMarkt consumer electronics chain, this was not to be its only activity in the consumer electronics sector. In order to realize a particularly customer-friendly combination of specialist stores and webshop, the REWE Group had also taken over the online provider myby and thus purchased webshop technology. The task now was to harmonize the offerings of ProMarkt shops and www.promarkt.de and to network the IT systems.
Solution
REWE Unterhaltungselektronik GmbH commissioned noris network, an experienced operator of high-performance data centres, to host the technology behind the www.promarkt.de webshop. For this purpose, noris network provides virtualization servers for the ERP system Microsoft Dynamics NAV and 26 dedicated servers for the Enfinity front end. The systems were set up with high availability and the noris network backbone ensures reliable Internet availability.
Project success
noris network is responsible for hosting the infrastructure of the ProMarkt webshop. Following the consolidation and relocation of the ERP system and webshop, noris network is responsible for the basic operation of servers, storage, and connections. REWE Unterhaltungselektronik also relies on noris network for its central firewall, redundant backups in the backup centre and load balancing.
