Max Bögl Group

Founded in 1929 by Max Bögl, the group of companies headquartered in Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz can look back on over 80 years of successful company history. With an annual turnover of around 1.6 billion euros and around 6,000 highly qualified employees worldwide, the Max Bögl Group is one of the top 5 largest construction companies in Germany. Now run by the third generation, the group is also the largest privately owned construction company in Germany. The company covers all areas of construction services and has realised numerous large-scale projects such as prestigious public buildings, sports stadiums, bridges, tunnels, industrial buildings, etc.

Challenge

The Max Bögl Group, Germany’s largest privately owned construction company, built a 200 square metre back-up centre on its premises in Sengenthal near Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate in 2010. Planned by the company’s long-standing IT service provider, noris network AG, the centre was technically state-of-the-art. However, a basic principle of IT security through redundancy is spatial separation, which is why the Max Bögl Group wanted the disaster-proof centre to be located at a greater distance from the live system.

Solution

When noris network decided to build a new high-security and high-availability data centre, the Max Bögl Group was the right partner for this construction project among its regular customers. Together, the companies built one of the most modern data centres in Europe. The Max Bögl Group was one of the first customers to move its back-up data centre into the NBG6 data centre, which is connected to the company headquarters via two redundant 60-kilometre-long fibre optic cables.

Project success

The back-up data centre for the Max Bögl Group in the NBG6 data centre currently comprises a total of ten racks. Central systems such as SAP run on five racks provided by noris network. A further five racks provided by the Max Bögl Group (EMC and IBM) are mainly storage systems. noris network also hosts the intranet and various websites of the construction company.
