apo.com Group

The apo.com Group is a pan-European health tech company based near Leipzig, Germany. It operates two highly automated pharmaceutical logistics centres, including the online pharmacies apodiscounter and apo.com. To support people in their individual health management, the apo.com Group relies on AI-supported logistics technology and digital pharmaceutical advice.

Challenge

The apo.com Group, logistics and IT service provider for apodiscounter.de and other pharmaceutical and cosmetics web shops, wanted to set up a modern, highly available IT infrastructure and was looking for a future-proof solution. In particular, the data centre needed to meet the highest security requirements and have growth potential. The main data centre in Leuna had served its purpose for a long time, but the data centre had reached its capacity limits and the facility had no room for expansion, which was to be expected in view of the growth of the online pharmacies.

Solution

The IT department of the apo.com Group designed a new set-up, which essentially envisaged a high-availability active/active cluster. Five possible locations were evaluated and the choice fell on the Nuremberg South data centre of noris network AG. The decisive factors were the modular concept of the energy and air conditioning supply, which promised scalability at will, the high certified service and security standards, the energy efficiency and the expertise of the contact partners.

Project success

The high volume of transactions via the web shops, which the apo.com Group hosts together with extensive backend systems in noris network’s high-security data centre, is processed reliably. The systems are optimally accessible on the Internet via noris network’s own backbone. Extensive tests, such as penetration tests or disaster recovery scenarios, have confirmed the quality of the facility.
